THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
Today's Gospel refers to the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus is telling us "Yes. You are blessed if you are poor, if you are in mourning, if you are persecuted."
Jesus began His public teaching with a startling revelation: the Kingdom of Heaven is not what you think. The Kingdom of Heaven is not about being happy or prosperous or respected or strong. If you are these things, you are no more blessed and loved by God than others who are not happy, not prosperous, not respected, and not strong. Rather, the Kingdom of Heaven is about God's love for all people, regardless of their life circumstances. We cannot look around us and determine God's favor on us based on how healthy, wealthy, or wise we are. God's love for us is limited by nothing, and our love for God is limited by nothing.

God of All Goodness, you blessed us in creating us in your image. You bless us with Your love and mercy. You bless us with everlasting life in Your Son, Jesus. May we live with great joy, knowing that You bless us always and abundantly. Amen.
