CALLING TREE
Parishioners wishing to be notified when a parishioner or former
parishioner has died are asked to call Rita Cole (708) 333-5188
and supply her with your phone number. Traditionally the calling
tree has been used to notify Women's Guild members only. This is
the church's way of expanding this service to the whole congregation.
We thank Rita for taking on this task. You will be contact whether
or not the funeral Mass will be held at St. Gerard Majella. Special
request from the family of a departed one will always be taken into
consideration.
Please call Rita if you want your name on this calling tree list.
GUILD MEMBERSHIP DRIVE
The Women's Guild will be having their membership drive. The envelopes
will be in church and can be returned in the collection baskets.
Dues for the 2005-2006 year are $5.00. All women of the parish are
invited to join.
This organization does many wonderful things for our parish. Why
not consider becoming a member of this active organization?
Any questions? Please call Shirley Roskos (708) 560-0071.
THE WOMEN'S CENTER
The Women's Guild collected $442.00 for the Women's Center. The
flower sale was a huge success with every flower being sold. Thank
you to everyone who supported this wonderful cause.
WELCOMING COMMITTEE
The Parish Council would like to take this opportunity to thank
our ladies and gentlemen, who greet people at the beginning of each
Mass. It is wonderful the way you welcome people to our church.
Your work has encouraged us to expand upon this ministry by forming
an official "Welcoming Committee". The Council would like
to invite others to join this small in numbers but big in heart
group. The duties are simple and the work is satisfying.
If you are interested in becoming a member of this ministry, please
contact the parish office.
UGANDAN MASS
Please join Ugandans and Ugandan Americans for Mass in celebration
of the Feast of the Ugandan Martyrs. The Mass will be celebrated
on Saturday, June 4, 2005 at 7:00 PM. The local will be St/ Joachim
(700 East 91st Street, Chicago). The principal celebrant and homilist
will be the Most Reverend Joseph N. Perry.
After the Mass a potluck dinner, music, and dancing will be held
in the Parish Hall.
WOMEN'S GUILD
The Gerardian Women's Guild would like to thank everyone who has
supported them this past year. They appreciate your help and participation
in the events they have sponsored. They are planning an exciting
year starting in September. They wish everyone a great summer.
The ladies held their annual May luncheon at Carlos. The food was
spectacular and it was nice to have a room all to themselves. The
women really enjoyed the camaraderie of the afternoon. Usually they
are so busy working they don't get a chance to visit with each other.
RESURRECTION CHOIR
The Resurrection choir will rehearse on Tuesday, May 24, at 1:00
PM in the church. Please join us in this church ministry.
RETREAT
In recent years Holy Cross family Ministries has been assisting
Fatima Retreat Center in the direction of the Big Retreat. The theme
for this year's retreat is "Eucharist - a Family Experience"
is in keeping with Pope John Paul's announcing this year as the
Year of the Eucharist. Each talk will expand the definition of "family"
a bit to be more and more inclusive.
Please join us on August 5-7, 2005 at the University of Notre Dame.
For more details call Beth Mahoney at 1-800-299-7729 ext. 2012.
MINISTRY OF COMPASSION
Our church has been invited to help ease the loneliness with men
and women in prison. These individuals could use the reassurance
of others that God loves them and that there are people in the world
praying for them. A friendly letter of encouragement can make a
huge difference in their lives.
If you would like to be a part of this ministry, please contact
Linda in the office.
Rest assured that all letters will be mailed from the church address
and that your anonymity would be safeguarded. There are strict guidelines
set up for these letters to make sure all parties involved will
find this a rewarding experience.
For more information, please call the parish office. We have a list
of four female and four male inmates.
MEMORIAL DAY MASSES
Memorial Day Masses will be celebrated in Catholic cemeteries on
Monday, May 30, 2005. You are invited to attend a special Field

STEPFAMILY CONFERENCE
Not all marriages are successful. Couples will divorce and may later
remarry. You are invited to attend an Interfaith Stepfamily Conference,
July 22 & 23, 2005 at St. Giles parish. For more information
call (312)751-8353.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
Today is the feast of the Most Holy Trinity. Most of us probably
don't think about the Trinity, but the Trinity is something we believe
in and we often show that belief to the world.
On this day, we celebrate the wonder and mystery of our God - as
God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. "God
so loved the world that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who
believes in Him might not perish but might have eternal life."
This is the first words we hear read from the Gospel today. It is
a statement about how much God loves us.
God's love for us is beyond anything we can imagine. God the Father
created the world; God the Son came into this world; God the Holy
Spirit is in this world. We might think of the Trinity as All of
God.: God the Creator, God the Savior, and God the Giver of Life
and Peace. When we bless ourselves with the Sign of the Cross -
in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit
- we are saying to ourselves and we are showing the world that we
believe in the Trinity and look forward to a life everlasting in
heaven.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as
it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without
end. Amen.
