of all the work she does and has done for our church and community.
This year marks the 20th Anniversary of the Office for Black Catholic
and the 20th Annual Fr. Augustus Tolton Awards Banquet for Black
Catholics. The dinner will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2005
at the Hyatt Regency Chicago.
If you wish to attend this dinner, please contact Linda in the parish

CATHOLIC SCHOOL FUND
Did you go to a Catholic School? Then don't forget the Cardinal's
School Fund, established to help archdiocesan schools face financial
challenges.
The tax-deductible fund is seeking critical donations because increasing
costs jeopardize the future of many Catholic schools.
For more information, call (312) 751-05250 or visit www.archchicago.org.
BEWARE
The Archdiocese of Chicago has sent a warning to each parish about
a fraudulent activity that was reported in areas of Vicariates III
and V.
A man representing himself as "Fr. Carlos" or "Fr.
Carlos Castillo" or a similar name has been going door-to-door
under the pretense of being a priest. He claims he is in transition
from an assignment in Joliet to an assignment in Chicago, or is
a priest from the local parish. The man exhibits an ID card or letter
to validate his identity, but these are fraudulent. He attempts
to register children for Religious Education classes, and tries
to solicit donations.
Please be aware of this scam. If he approaches you, call the police.
HOLY NAME SOCIETY
The Holy Name Society is again selling the Entertainment Coupon
Books. This year it is $25.99 a book and contains more discounts.
The Holy Name earns $5.00 per book sold. See Norm Cole, Lee Palys,
or DoDo Dove for and edition or more information. Use it now and
save till November 2006.
CONGRATULATIONS
Congratulations to Jesse Bieker and Kim Cleary-Bieker on their marriage.
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION CLASSES
Religious Education classes will begin on Sept. 25, from 9:00 -
10:30AM each Sunday. Registration for classes will be on Sept. 18,
2005 in the parish office. If you can not register at that time
please call, (708) 331-8400 and arrange a time to register your
child. All children that are not attending Catholic Schools should
attend CCD classes. The fee will remain at $30.00 per child. If
you do not have the fee, register your child anyway. We all understand
that there are times in one's life when finances are tight. No child
will be denied a religious education because of funds.
VOCATION RETREAT FOR WOMEN
You are invited to a weekend retreat for single women to discern
if God is calling you to Religious Life. Learn about Religious Life
with time to reflect and share with others who are also searching.
Retreats are from Friday night to Sunday noon, September 23-25,
October 14-16 and October 21-23, given by the Sisters of the Holy
Cross, at St. Mary's Notre Dame, Indiana.
For more registration and more information email maryssong1@aol.com

Walk for Life will be on Saturday, September 10 from 10 AM to 1

Heights and North Park Village Nature Center on the northwest side
of Chicago. Both locations offer trails, gardens, a nature enter

CLONING AND HUMAN DIGNITY
The Illinois Catholic Health Association has prepared an article
that explains the Church's teaching on cloning and the use of Embryonic
and Adult Stem Cells in medical research and therapy.
Cardinal George has asked that each parish make this information
available to the congregation. Please pick up and read the flyer
sent to us by the Archdiocese. The page gives you general information
and a definition of the terms used.

of poverty.

program, how it functions and future prospects, State Representative,
Will Davis, will be hosting a regional meeting of the "Illinois
House Speaker's Summit on Social Security and its' Future"
on Monday, September 19th from 4:00 PM to 6:30 PM at the South Suburban

BACK TO SCHOOL
The children have started back to school. This prayer by Mary Lynn
Hendrickson seems the perfect way to start the school year.
We thank you for the fragrance of a new box of crayons, Lord, the
rainbow in each perfect row. Thank you for each bundle of snowy
white notebook paper, awaiting fresh possibilities. May they remind
us that you make all things new and bless us each with abundance.
Thank you for this ruler, for every eraser that tops every pencil.
May they help us remember to measure our blessings but never your
boundless love for us. Remind us also to allow for the making of
mistakes as a normal part of human learning. As we lay out our clothes
for these first days of school, help us remember to put on Christ
each day, too, and to "clothe the naked" as He asked us.
But mostly, God, help us remember that Jesus is always our best
and most devoted teacher. We never outgrow all His lessons on how
He wants us to live and to love.
THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
The message from the readings this weekend, are all about love thy
neighbor. Too often we fail to live up to this ideal, yet God showers
forgiveness upon us. This week let us try to "love our neighbor
as we love ourselves".
