THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
Today's readings describe a common trap in which believers often
find themselves. We try to live according to the precepts and laws
of the Church but, when we do so without regard for the poor and
lowly of this world, we can find ourselves becoming smug and self-satisfied.
The Lord, Jesus warns his followers not to fall into this trap.
Rather, he says, we must humble ourselves as we strive to live out
the law of the Lord. This is the only path to exalted glory with
the Lord.
Jesus says that the greatest person is the person who serves and
helps others. If everyone lived this way every day, we would live
in peace all around the world.
Creator God, our families and cities and countries all around the
world can live in peace. May the Holy Spirit make our hearts humble
so that we are always ready to help and serve others to make the
world more peaceful every day. Amen.
