DATES TO REMEMBER
Feb. 11 Valentine Luncheon (11:30 - 1:00)
Feb. 20 Guild Meeting (7 PM)
ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL 2006
This week, you are asked to read and reflect upon the Annual Catholic
Appeal brochure that you received today. The theme of the campaign
is: "He has put His seal upon us and given the Spirit in our
hearts." 2Corinthians 1:22
The Annual Catholic Appeal provides a significant portion of the
budget of the Archdiocese of Chicago. Most dioceses in the country
conduct an appeal, once a year, to help with the cost of providing
services and programs to their parishes and people. Chicago is no
exception.
The Archdiocese has been cutting its budgets, programs and staff
significantly over the last several years. Now, it must have significant
financial support from the Annual Catholic Appeal in order to be
able to fund the work to be accomplished in the coming fiscal year.
The Annual Catholic Appeal campaign is much different than a one
time special collection. It is a pledge campaign, where you make
a gift, payable over five months. Sometimes it is difficult to envision
how one pledge can help an organization the size of our Archdiocese,
how it can make a real difference. But, it does, because all parishes
participate in the campaign and the gifts of many will enable our
Archdiocese to deliver needed ministry and services.
If you received your pledge form in the mail, please complete it
and bring it to Mass next weekend. For those of you that did not
receive a mailing, we will conduct our in-pew pledge process at
all Masses next weekend and the following weekend.
As always, what you give should be given in gratitude for what God
has given to you.
WOMEN'S GUILD NEWS
It's time to fill the cookie jar. Again the U.S.O. is asking our
help. Please be generous in your monetary donation to their Annual
Cookie Jar drive. Our service women and men are doing a great job
in serving our country. The collection will take place on February
11th and 12th after each Mass.
Please watch the bulletin for news about our annual St. Joseph's
Table. This year the Women's Guild will be hosting the Blue Army.
Everyone is invited to attend this free-will offering event.
CONGRATULATIONS
We want to congratulate Patti Smith on achieving the Honor Roll

by calling (800) New-life.
SPECIAL THANK YOU
A "warm" Thank You to Steve Grimm, who gave up his Saturday
to come here to SGM, and fix our heating system so the Church would
be warm in time for all the weekend Masses.
We are blessed to have capable parishioners willing to help with
the repairs and up keep of our parish.

list, please contact the parish office any weekday afternoon. We

the parish. Any person currently on the list is asked to pass along

WHAT'S YOUR CATHOLIC IQ?
The answers to last weeks questions are: no questions last week.
This week's questions are:
1. In the Creed we say that the Church is "one, holy, catholic'
and (a) divine; (b) human; (c) apostolic; (d) pure.
2. The beautiful Old Testament queen who saved the Jewish people
from being killed was (a) Esther; (b) Rebecca; (c) Sarah; (d) Rachel.
3. We receive ashes on Ash Wednesday (a) as a sign of penance; (b)
to remind us that we will die; (c) to ask us to repent and believe
in the Gospel; (d) all of the above.
4. The famous Dominican saint from Peru who sought the lowest tasks
and cured many people was (a) John Vianney; (b) Martin de Porres;
(c) Ambrose; (d) Ignatius of Antioch.
5. The great leader of the Chosen People who received the Ten Commandments
from God was (a) Abraham; (b) David; (c) Moses; (d) Jacob.
THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
Picking up the themes begun in last week's Gospel, this week's reading
and Gospel will focus on the healing power of God. We come with
our joys and sorrows, our health and sickness, asking God to be
present in times of gladness as well as pain.
This is a time when we should stand back and marvel at the works
the Lord Jesus performed. In curing the leper, Jesus broke down
barriers that had existed for centuries. In our world, barriers
have also stood for centuries, preventing peace and the healing
of nations.
Let us pray that ever greater healing will occur within our lives
and in our weary world.
O God of wondrous mercy and compassion,
Listen to the prayer of those who put their trust in you. Bring
healing and comfort to all who suffer. We ask this in the name of
Christ our Lord.
Amen.
