ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL 2006
This week, you are asked to read and reflect upon the Annual Catholic
Appeal brochure that you received today. The theme of the campaign
is: "He has put His seal upon us and given the Spirit in our
hearts." 2Corinthians 1:22
The Annual Catholic Appeal provides a significant portion of the
budget of the Archdiocese of Chicago. Most dioceses in the country
conduct an appeal, once a year, to help with the cost of providing
services and programs to their parishes and people. Chicago is no
exception.
The Archdiocese has been cutting its budgets, programs and staff
significantly over the last several years. Now, it must have significant
financial support from the Annual Catholic Appeal in order to be
able to fund the work to be accomplished in the coming fiscal year.
The Annual Catholic Appeal campaign is much different than a one
time special collection. It is a pledge campaign, where you make
a gift, payable over five months. Sometimes it is difficult to envision
how one pledge can help an organization the size of our Archdiocese,
how it can make a real difference. But, it does, because all parishes
participate in the campaign and the gifts of many will enable our
Archdiocese to deliver needed ministry and services.
If you received your pledge form in the mail, please complete it
and bring it to Mass next weekend. For those of you that did not
receive a mailing, we will conduct our in-pew pledge process at
all Masses next weekend and the following weekend.
As always, what you give should be given in gratitude for what God
has given to you.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
In today's Gospel we hear the story of the four men who lowered
their paralyzed friend through a hole in the roof of the house where
Jesus was preaching. This lesson is to remind us to think about
the need for healing. All of us are in need of the healing presence
of Christ. Let us absorb the wonder and miraculous power of Jesus
who came to save us.
God of forgiveness and healing,
Listen to the prayers we voice on behalf of those who are in need.
Give us strength to continue our journey of faith toward everlasting
life with you. Amen.
