YOUR CATHOLIC IQ? The answers to last week's questions are: 1. (d); 2. (c);
3. (d) This week's questions are: 1. Apologetics means (a) Never having
to say you're sorry; (b) the art of apologizing for being a Catholic; (c) a course
which seminarians used to have to take but which they now are exempted from by
cannon law; (d) giving reasoned explanations and defenses for the faith. 2.
Parish Councils (a) were set up by Vatican II to oversee the work of parish priests;
(b) prevail against the opinions of pastors if at least two-thirds of the council
members agree on an issue; (c) Advise the pastor and take on task and duties he
asks of them; (d) were instituted by Vatican II because the Church is now a democracy,
not a monarchy. THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK Marveling at the surpassing greatness
of God's power, we gather this day to celebrate the feast of the Ascension of
the Lord. We have spent these Easter days giving thanks and praise for the saving
death and resurrection of Christ. Now we stand with the disciples and see the
Lord lifted from our sight. As we hear the account of the Lord's ascension,
we can only imagine how abandoned the apostles must have felt when Jesus was lifted
up before their eyes. The power emanating from his passion, death, and resurrection,
however, was enough to keep their hearts filled with hope. And this hope was the
springboard from which they began a preaching and teaching ministry that began
to spread the Good News of salvation, a ministry that reaches us even to this
day. We know that we are never abandoned or alone, for the Holy Spirit, the
very life of God, is our guide on life's journey. Be attentive o the prayers
of your holy people, O God of mercy and goodness. Bring us to the full stature
of your Son, Jesus Christ, who is Lord forever and ever. Amen.
