A LETTTER FROM SR. BARBARA
Dear Sr. Catherine, Lou, and Ladies of the Women's Guild:
Thank You for the generous contribution of $55.00, which I received from you! Sister Catherine told me that you had a St. Joseph's Dinner and made St. James {Social Care} the recipient of your profit!
With summer vacation here and the children home, our need for food is even greater! We will be able to keep all the families supplied because of friends like you folks in Markham!
I would love to come to your September meeting and meet all of you! How great it will be to put faces on the Women's Guild! I'll be in contact with Sr. Catherine as to the date.
May the Holy Spirit shower you with gifts of wisdom, peace, and love.
With great gratitude,
Sister Barbara

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
The love of Christ draws us together today as we embark on a long journey through the Sundays of Ordinary Time. We start our journey in a small boat that is being tossed by stormy seas. During the past few years there has been a great deal of destruction caused by tsunamis and hurricanes. The surging waters have a destructive power that we can hardly comprehend. Place yourself on that tiny boat next to one of the disciples (most of who were experienced fishermen) and you will better understand the fear they felt when the squall came up and waves began to break over the boat. This Gospel story reminds us that Jesus calmed the seas. We are inspired to turn to the Lord when we are faced with those things that bring fear and desperation into our own lives. Christ is present in the midst of every storm we face. Let us not be afraid to ask God to come to our aid, especially when the storms of worry, fear, and anxiety begin to crash over our own lives.

O God of great mercy,
hear the prayer of your people,
voiced in the name of your Son, Jesus,
who calmed the sea and rebuked the wind.
He is Lord forever and ever.
Amen.
