27th Murder Mystery Dinner September 17 SGM Parish Fest KEEP COOL
We have purchased a couple of new large fans for church. Thank you to Kevin and
George Fagan for picking them up and assembling them. If the weather turns
deathly warm and you do not have away to keep cool, please, call the parish office.
We will open Shevlin Hall as a cooling center. If you know of someone who
lives by themselves, give them a call during this hot weather. Please make sure
they are taking care of themselves by keeping cool and drinking lots of water.
Tea and coffee are not the best choices for a beverage during the hot weather.
Young or old we are all susceptible to the heat. SUMMER PRODUCTION There
is murder in the air! This summer the SGM Players will be hosting a "Murder
Mystery Dinner". If you would like to be a part of this event, please contact
Linda in the parish office. We need actors, singers, kitchen help, people to sell
tickets, promote the production and a million other jobs. JOYFUL AGAIN!
If you have been recently widowed and are still struggling with the loss, or if
you have been widowed for some time and need something to get you "over the
hump" because you seem to be stuck in one spot, this program is designed
to help you move on with your life while treasuring your past and its precious
memories. The next retreat/workshop will be held at Holy Family Parish, Inverness,
IL. All are invited. The Joyful Again! Retreat is for both men and women (all
ages) who have been widowed and are still trying to find hope and joy in their
lives. The retreat will be on August 12 & 13, 2006. The cost is $75 which
includes meals. For further information call (708) 354-7211. ADOPT TROOPS
& FAMILIES This July 4th Catholic Digest is launching a very special program
to bring spiritual comfort and support to our military troops and their families
and to support the Archdioceses for the Military Services, USA. You can send
a Catholic Digest subscription to a service member or their family to say "Thank
you for your Sacrifice". A portion of each subscription will be donated to
the Archdiocese for Military Services, USA, to support its mission and ministry
as its chaplains reach out to our brave men and women in the armed forces.

PM in the church. The congregation really appreciates the time and effort the
choir puts in to help our parish families in their time of need. The choir is
always searching for more members. They rehearse once a month on the first Tuesday
afternoon in the month. They are not looking for soloist, just people willing
to sing a few songs at a Mass when needed. A PARISH FEST Mark your
calendars for Sunday, September 17, 2006. We would like to celebrate the feast
of our patron saint, Saint Gerard Majella, a month early by holding an outdoor
picnic and community get together. Each organization in the parish will sponsor
a booth or event for the afternoon. There will be music, food, crafts, dancing,
etc. If you would like to host an event or booth, please call Linda or Kevin in
the office. So far we have the Holy Name Society manning the bar-b-que grills,
the Women's Guild will host a bake sale, the CCD children will run relay races,
Sr. Katherine's dance group will be putting on a show, The SGM players will be
singing a few old-time songs, there a few craft and information booths spoken
for. Watch the bulletin for more information, but in the mean time think of something
you would like to contribute or do. The more ideas we have the more fun it will
be.
WHAT'S YOUR CATHOLIC IQ? The answers to last week's questions are:
1. (d); 2. (b); 3. (b); 4. (c); 5. (a). This week's questions are all about
saints: 1. Although we know very little about St. Scholastica, we know she
was the twin sister of (a) St. Benedict; (b) Pope John Paul; (c) St. Gegory; (d)
St. Rose Philippine Duchesne. 2. St Albert the Great is the Patron saint of
(a) scientists; (b) philosophers; (c) students; (d) all the above. 3. St. Bartholomew
is one of the twelve apostles called by Jesus. He was mentioned how many times
in the New Testament? (a) 12; (b) 9; (c) 4; (d) 6. 4. Two saints were beheaded
just two weeks apart for the same "crime" against the King of England.
They were: (a) St. Perpetua and St. Felicity; (b) St. John Fisher and St. Thomas
More; (c) St. Simon and St. Jude; (d).St. Cornelius and St. Cyprian 5. St.
Francis came from a large noble family. He was the eldest of how many children?
(a) thirteen; (b) sixteen; (c) nine; (d) twelve. If you have a question we
can use, please call the parish office. THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK Last Sunday
we listened to the Gospel story of how Jesus was moved with pity for the crowds
who were like sheep without a shepherd. Today the Gospel tells us the Lord again
looks upon the enormous crowd that has followed him and performs the miracle of
the loaves and the fishes. The Lord Jesus summons us, his hungry flock, to Mass
were we are fed at the tables of word and Eucharist. We are nourished and strengthened
to bring Christ to the world. Let us remember that, as baptized Christians, we
are called to feed the hungry. Gracious God, in your generosity answer the
prayers and cries for help of those in need. Amen.
