27th Murder Mystery Dinner September 17 SGM Parish Fest KEEP COOL
We have purchased a couple of new large fans for church. Thank you to Kevin and
George Fagan for picking them up and assembling them. If the weather turns
deathly warm and you do not have away to keep cool, please, call the parish office.
We will open Shevlin Hall as a cooling center. If you know of someone who
lives by themselves, give them a call during this hot weather. Please make sure
they are taking care of themselves by keeping cool and drinking lots of water.
Tea and coffee are not the best choices for a beverage during the hot weather.
Young or old we are all susceptible to the heat. SUMMER PRODUCTION There
is murder in the air! This summer the SGM Players will be hosting a "Murder
Mystery Dinner". Tickets will go on sell this weekend. Dinner Shows will
be $15.00 per person and will include a four course meal and a beverage. There
will also be a "bar" at which a "Ginger ale Martini", a "Root
Beer" or other pop can be purchased. Non-dinner nights tickets are $10.00
and will include table snacks, your first "drink" of the night, and
a "Cabaret Show" performed by the youth of the parish ages 3 to 18.
The patrons of the speakeasy are encouraged to join in the fun by dressing in
"1920's outfits". You don't have to, but it will add to your enjoyment
of the evening. When you purchase your ticket, you will be given a password.
Everyone knows if you knock on the door of a speakeasy, they won't let you in
without the password. There has to be some way to make sure the place doesn't
get raided. Those who purchase their tickets in advance will be entered in
a special drawing. Tickets are limited and as you know dinner shows sell out fast.
Don't miss out on the fun, but your tickets early. Show dates are Friday,
August 18th, Saturday, August 19th (Dinner Show), Saturday, August 26th, and Sunday,
August 27th (Dinner Show). ADOPT TROOPS & FAMILIES This July 4th

FOR THE WEEK We are used to hearing the Gospel story of the Lord's transfiguration
on the Second Sunday of Lent each year. The actual feast of the Transfiguration
is celebrated on August 6th. When this feast occurs on a Sunday, it is celebrated
in place of the Sunday in Ordinary Time. Today's feast reminds us that we
will share one day in the glory of the resurrection of Christ. As followers of
Christ, we become the beloved of God, who promises eternal life to those, who
put their trust in the Lord. What wonderful readings the Church proclaims
today. The prophet Daniel sees into heaven and describes it as a place of brilliant
fire. Jesus and three disciples climb a mountain and enter into heaven's brilliance.
Moses and Elijah - the witnesses of the law and the prophets - join them in a
"homecoming" of Christ, the disciples, and the ancestors. With Peter
we raise our voices in joy, proclaiming. "How good it is for us to be here."
God of sovereign majesty, transform us and lift us up through the experience
of love for one another. Hear our prayer voiced in the name of your transfigured
Son, Jesus Christ, who is Lord for ever and ever. Amen.
